01 / What it is for

Why use a VPS?

A VPS gives a project a stable place to run software without buying a physical machine. You choose the location and operating-system image; you decide what is installed, what data is retained and when the server is shut down.

Publish a website

Run a static site, WordPress, WooCommerce store, blog, small API or private dashboard. Point a domain to the VPS with DNS records.

Build or calculate

Rent more CPU or memory for a heavy build, rendering job, migration, test environment or data calculation. Set an automatic lifetime and release the machine afterwards.

Collect and process data

Run a scheduled worker, crawler or ETL job where you have permission to access the source. Keep credentials private and follow the source's terms and rate limits.

How to launch a website through VPS MCP

Connect the agent
Give your agent a Skynes bearer key and the MCP endpoint https://skynes.cloud/mcp. Keep the key and generated SSH private key in a secret store.

Describe the workload
Say what you are deploying: for example, “a low-traffic WordPress site in Amsterdam” or “a build worker for two hours”. The agent checks plans, locations and images.

Review the quote
The agent calls quote_vps and shows hourly price, monthly price, commission and the hourly cap. Choose hour or month explicitly.

Approve and deploy
After your confirmation, order_vps creates the VPS with the registered SSH public key. The response includes the server ID and IP; the private key is never sent back in chat.

Connect the domain and install
Use SSH or your deployment tool to install the site, then use the DNS MCP tools to manage A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, CAA or NS records.

03 / Short-lived infrastructure

Rent it for the task, then turn it off

Short-term VPS rental is useful when a laptop or CI runner is too small, too slow or unavailable. Add expire_at when ordering, for example 30m, 3h, 10d or 2 weeks. Skynes stops and deletes the provider server at the deadline.

An expiry is a deletion guard, not a backup. Save artifacts and data outside the temporary server before the deadline.

Host a game server for your group

A VPS can run a dedicated server for a small community, a private test world or a modded session. Choose memory for the number of players and mods, and check the game's server software and license requirements before installing it.

MINECRAFT

Java, Bedrock and modpacks

Allocate memory for the world and mods, enable backups, and use a whitelist or private network for a friends-only world.

COUNTER-STRIKE

Private practice server

Use a nearby location for lower latency, keep admin passwords out of chat and restrict the server to your players while testing.

GTA / OTHER

Community and mod servers

GTA V/FiveM, Terraria, Valheim, Rust and other dedicated-server games can use the same pattern: install, open only required ports, monitor and stop when idle.

Game-server software, ports, plugins, backups, updates and moderation remain the operator's responsibility. The VPS is the compute layer; it does not include game licenses or official matchmaking.

Two ways to hand over a VPS

Option	What changes	When to use it
Full ownership transfer	The server moves to another registered user's account. Future billing, server metadata and cancellation control move with it. Existing temporary grants are revoked.	Handing a project to a client, teammate or new account owner
Temporary developer access	Grant a user view-only or manage access until a deadline. Manage access can update server metadata and its expiry, but cannot use your wallet, transfer ownership or cancel the VPS.	Letting a developer deploy or inspect a server for a fixed period

Platform access and SSH access are separate. Ownership transfer does not rotate the provider's existing SSH key. Rotate or replace shell credentials through your server's own security procedure before handing over production access.
